Slippery elm is an American deciduous tree found planted along streets and grown in forests. It grows to over 50 feet in height. Its trunk is covered with a dark brown rough, furrowed outer bark and an inner bark which is whitish and aromatic. This inner bark is noted primarily for its soothing properties. Internally it is helpful where inflammatory irritation exists, as in sore throats, diarrhoea, dysentery and many urinary problems. It is a major beneficial aid to improved digestion, especially when returning to solid food after a period of illness. Externally it is applied as a poultice to irritated and inflamed skin and to wounds. To take put 1 heaped teaspoon of SE in a small amount of milk and take on an empty stomach last thing at night and/or first thing in the morning. It is not unpleasant to take. The amount of milk doesn't matter it is purely to dissolve the powder for ease of taking.
