Jansal Valley star anise, 6 ounce. This unique spice is native to china and comes from an evergreen tree. The tree bears yellow star shaped flowers that ripens into the brown star shaped spice used throughout Chinese and Vietnamese cooking. Star anise has a more robust licorice flavor than the similarly flavored anise seed. Use ground or whole (remove after cooking or use as a garnish). Use with chicken, fish, shellfish, rice pudding, steamed cabbage.
