Jansal Valley ground sumac, 2.5 ounce. The berries from the sumac turn a bright red in the fall. They offer a sour flavor and are used in middle eastern cooking the way vinegar or lemon is used in western cooking. Ground sumac is commonly used sprinkled on chicken or fish, in salad dressings or as a rub on grilled meats. Ground sumac used for cooking is from the middle east, not to be confused with its north American relative, which is poisonous. Use as a rub meat, sprinkle over fish and chicken, add to salad dressing.
