Some of the original recipes can be traced back to 100 B.C. when a block of sugar, almonds and hazelnuts, the original nougat, went under the name of "cupedia", a term used to describe gluttony for fine or delicate foods! It was marketed in Ancient Rome and noted by Roman poets. Later, bite-sized and covered in rich dark chocolate, it became a favourite of the Bourbon King of Naples, Ferdinando I. From there it made its way quickly to the tables of popes and nobles all over Europe.</p>
